GO PATRIOTS!

However, since DBU didn't have a football team, and Mr. Douglas went to Texas Tech, if there is any kind of sport competition going on, I cheer for Texas Tech.

WRECK EM!

During college week, we had some amazing parents come in and speak to the students about different careers and schools. We had a parent who worked on PC's, a businesswomen and a Frisco Firefighter. The kids were all very impressed with all the hard work it takes to succeed in these fields. Here are some pictures of our day:

A HUGE thanks to all who participated in College Week! It was a great week for our students!

Brain Teaser-Recognition

Thanks to todaysgolfer.com for the image!

John lived in England all his life, until his parents died. He then went to Austrailia to visit relatives. His Aunt Mary had left England before he was born and had never returned. He never met his Aunt Mary, had never spoken to her, and had never seen a picture of her. Yet he recognized her immediately in a crowded airport. How?

Regions

Last week in Reading/Social Studies, we worked on the regions of the United States and we studied the Native American groups living in each of those regions. Students learned about the climates of the regions, the resources found in those regions and how the Native Americans had different ways of life due to the differences in the regions.

Here are some pictures of our kids hard at work:

Rainy Days are Quiet Days

Something about the rain makes our 5th grade students very, and I mean VERY quiet. As I look around the room they are all working quietly. Even when they are assigned a partner or a group to work with, they are hesitant to talk.

I don't know if it is that they are just so upset about not having recess that they are too depressed to utter a single word. Or maybe they are so distracted from the vision of Mr. I soaking wet from this morning they can't form any other thoughts. It might possibly be the soothing sound of the rain calms their sweet little spirits so much they wouldn't dare utter a word.

Whatever it is, it has certainly made the classroom eerily silent.

The culprit of our quiet day:
