For Mrs. Douglas's students:
Newspaper editors work under intense pressure and must write up news headlines very quickly. Occasionally, the headlines turn out to mean something very different than what they were intended to mean.
Each one of the following headlines actually appeared in a newspaper at some point.
Choose one, write out two sentences, the first infer what you REALLY think the story was about. For the second sentence, make an inference about what an alternate story might have been for the headline.
Post your answer in the comments!
Headlines (Choose ONE!):
EYE DROPS OFF SHELF
SQUAD HELPS DOG BITE VICTIM
STOLEN PAINTING FOUND BY TREE
KIDS MAKE NUTRITIOUS SNACKS
INCLUDE YOUR CHILDREN WHEN BAKING
Thank you to Dr-mikes-math.com and to Daily Spark Warm up Activities for the headlines! :)
